Limestone range
The inspiration for this new and improved range comes from a few limestone areas around Europe, Mainly France's Buoux and Ceuse, and including some of Slovenia's climbing areas such as Osp and Mišja Peč.
Climbing on Limestone is unique, and the feeling of which can vastly differ between different limestone climbing areas. It was our goal to find and stylize, in the form of climbing holds, those features found on the rock that best represent limestone and how it feels to climb on.
Studying the rock, and finding those features and patterns is not an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity to take what is essentially a comparatively infinitely large 3-dimensional, unique and seemingly chaotic, climbing surface into a 3-dimensional form that can be affixed to any artificial climbing wall. One that represents and reminds you of that feeling of climbing at your favourite limestone crag!
The most important thing for a climbing hold is its functionality. It is said that design is nothing without function. The word function includes many things that a climbing holds needs to be in order for it to be a good one! We believe that first and foremost the climbing hold should not break whilst in use, nor when being fixed to the wall, second, the climbing hold must have bright and vivid colours, third, it should be comfortable to hold, fourth, it should be what you expect it to be i.e. a mini jug must be a mini jug, one that fits in to a category that defines a mini jug, fifth, it should be aesthetically pleasing. Of course when carving, the look of the hold is paramount -but if it wont perform on strength, then it will not make it into the Bleaustone line. All of the limestone holds presented in this new range for 2012, have been painstakingly designed and carved by hand. This design process ensures each criterion that is necessary for it to function is met /surpassed accordingly.
Within each carefully designed set you can be assured that you a receiving a unique, and non-random shape, one that fits in to its category, but differs subtly from its fellow. This is possible by the innovative way in which Bleaustone holds are designed. The Bleaustone concept allows holds to be designed so you, our customer, receive exactly what you want and need for your climbing wall, route-setters and climbers.
The layout of this new range allows routes of all grades to be created. That is to say, we do not design holds for your strongest climbers, but design holds that route setters can create with and set routes for all levels of climber. With the role of the route setter becoming more and more important in today's climbing gym. The need of holds that perform, and allow for this creativity, becomes more and more important. For example, with the introduction of Incut CrimpsTM now means we cover a broader spectrum in terms of size vs. positivity. Another added feature that improves the range's functionality is the introduction of a second screw-hole on many sets to allow for more precise positioning, for example, when setting routes for competitions.
